Fearless

How many times have we taken a brave step forward to challenge our fears only to be taken aback from a humongous shadow of uncertainty. What does the near future look like for you? We may be closer to our breakthrough than we thought. We may just be one step of courage away until the walls fall down. Our present situation is disheartening. We give more reason for our dismay to live up to its task to hinder us, block us, stop us from what our goals may look like in real life. Have you attempted to courageously stand up against fear to its face?

I am one of the millions of people who lost their job positions this year. I was furloughed at first and eventually laid off from a job that I passionately loved. Fear can prematurely take a grip of me, make a knot of me into a spongy squeeze ball thrown and kicked all over the place. I was fazed with uncertainty like a ball bouncing anywhere where kinetic energy and gravity decide to roll me over. I will most certainly lock up behind my bedroom door and hide under the covers then wallow in fear. I’ll hole up in my closet and stay in the dark. Darkness is where fear thrives. Darkness is where fear speaks loud and proud. It drowns the life out of you and call you names.

Without fail, fear makes us retreat and surrender. It is this big bad wolf that howls and announces its presence in the most intimidating manner. It is a yapping puppy that never stops to get your full attention. A heavy gray cloud that overshadow the sun above it, it dissipates gloom and an impending doom.

I got a call from my manager and picked up at the first ring. I was hopeful for a good news but it was not the news you want to hear. I was thinking between the lines of her words, I whispered to myself “I had worst days than this.” She proceeds to say how sorry she was for this decision and it was out of hand. Staring at the ceiling, I replied to myself “Of course, it’s not your decision, is was not in your hands.”

You and I have seen the worst but we are still here. We have gone through defeat. Aren’t we still standing ? Take a look over shoulder and make an inventory. The shadows that you’ve walked past through are only meant for inflict fear. It cannot kill you but it can destroy you if we give in to its grip. But you and I my dear missy, have not been given a spirit of fear.

Look at the face of fear and familiarize yourself. It appears as a dark and frightening giant holding a spear. Check out its back side, it is a spineless form. It is a shadow of certainty, a camouflage of hope.

You have a Father who holds you by the hand. Fear does not. Your future is out of its hand (like what my manager said). Do not fear when you pass through the valley of the shadow of death. It will not come near your tent.

For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
